David William Doig

Doig, David William January 8, 1938 – April 9, 2025

After a long life with Multiple Sclerosis, David died peacefully, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, at the age of 87. He was born in Montreal, to the late Kenneth James and Eva Rose Doig (née Parsley). David was the beloved husband, best friend, and partner to Gloria (née Lecciones). Proud father to Ted Doig and Lexa Shanks (Michael). Adored “Grumpa”, to Tatiana, Mia, and Samuel Shanks. Brother to Lois (née Doig) and the late Rodney Kerr. Brother-in-law to the late Eduardo Lecciones Jr. and his wife Rosita, the late Jose Lecciones and his wife Merriam, and Marianita (née Lecciones), and the late Jose Guirit of Dumaguete, Philippines. Uncle to Peter Kerr, Andrea Register (Chip) and Deirdre Kerr, the late Edward “Jun Jun” Lecciones, Edwin “Wing Wing” and Jennifer Lecciones of Leyte, Philippines, Jose Mari “Bordigoy” and Angelica Lecciones of Berlin, Germany, and Joseph Mark “Bagem” and Rose Lecciones of Adelaide, Australia. “Gruncle” to Colleen Cowan (Carson), Lesley Kerr, Madelaine Register, Peter “Peedge” Kerr, Bridget Gingras and great “Gruncle”, to Charlotte and Claire Cowan. David was a respected Elder at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church in Don Mills, Ontario, teaching Sunday School until his MS made it too difficult. In retirement, he enjoyed assisting in the computer lab at Don Mills Junior High (now Middle School) when his daughter attended, reading, and generally being a wizard at “Jeopardy!”. He impacted the lives of many with his gentle soul, wicked sense of humour, and wise kindness. He will be deeply missed.

Memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 1 Greenland Road in Don Mills, on Friday, May 2nd, at 5 p.m. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sunnybrook Foundation or North York General Foundation.
