Edith Margaret Wallace
EDITH MARGARET WALLACE (nee Thomson)
January 30, 1923 – April 8, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother in her 100th year, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease at Taunton Mills Village in Whitby.
Beloved wife of Ronald for 56 years, (predeceased 2004), mother of Craig, Bruce (Cheryl), and the late Evan. Nana to granddaughters Miranda (Laura), Cadence (Bill), Raelynn and Bonnie, and “G” Nana to great-grandchildren Evangeline and Julian. Edith was predeceased by her sisters Audrey (Gordon), Grace (Fred), Isabel (George), Eldred (Ross), Ruth (Doug), and brother David (Sandra). She is lovingly remembered by her sisters Shirley (Don), Barbara (John), and brother Tom (Beryl) as well as her sister-in-law Marion (Mervyn) and her 33 nieces and nephews.
Edith was a proud graduate of Victoria College of the University of Toronto. In the late 1940’s she was an employee of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and after raising her boys went to work for over 30 years in the grocery business founded by her mother and father, Thomson Groceries Limited. Edith and Ron were active members of their church, St. Mark’s Presbyterian in Don Mills. Their favourite vacation spot was the family cottage, in Brechin. Edith will be fondly remembered as having a good sense of humour and a spontaneous laugh. She had a spunky personality and was always thoughtful and kind. Our sincere thanks to Edith’s granddaughter Cadence and her good friend Ann Chaplin, who lived with and cared for Edith so she could remain in her home in Don Mills for three extra fun filled years.
A very special thank you to her niece Coreena, for all her love and support over Edith’s final days.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada would be appreciated.
