Anita Bernice Michie

Michie, Anita Bernice February 8, 1934 – April 14, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anita Bernice Michie (nee Leblanc) on Monday, April 14th, at the age of 91.

Born in Valcartier, Quebec, Anita was the daughter of the late Henri LeBlanc and Bernice (nee McCoubrey), older sister of the late Harvey LeBlanc, beloved wife of the late Alan Michie, and loving mother of John.

When Anita was in her early 30‘s, doctors discovered a malignant tumour on her left leg and made the life-saving decision to amputate her leg above the knee, successfully preventing the cancer from metastasizing.

As an amputee and mother of a young child, life presented many challenges. However, Anita faced these challenges head-on with courage, perseverance, pragmatism and fierce determination… qualities which she would carry with her throughout her entire lifetime, and for which she was greatly admired.

Anita will be lovingly remembered by her son John (Joanne), their daughters Carolyn (Cameron) and Jackie (Madison), great-grandson Gavin, niece and nephews Diana, Robert, and the late Charles (children of Florence and the late Harvey Leblanc), nieces Katharine and Fiona (children of the late lan and Molly Michie), as well as Anita’s extended family, and friends.

The family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Donway Place Retirement Home, North York General Hospital and Michael Garron Hospital for their excellent care, and kindness shown towards Anita.

Memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 1 Greenland Road in Don Mills, on Friday, May 9th, with Visitation starting at 1 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 2:30 p.m. Should you wish to make a memorial donation, please consider the following charities: St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church Toronto, North York General Hospital Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
