James (Jim) Stewart Walwyn EVANS
August 26, 1958 – Nanaimo, British Columbia
March 18, 2021- Calgary, Alberta
James Evans, of Calgary, AB, died on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the age of 62 years.
Jim was born in Nanaimo, BC and grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Don Mills and Regina, typical for a minister’s son. He graduated from the University of Regina with a degree in Computer Science and moved to Calgary to start his career with Imperial Oil. He worked with the Calgary 1988 Olympic Organizing Committee before starting a computer software business. Working with partners, he went on to develop software for the Olympic Games in Norway, Barcelona and Albertville and major newspapers through North America and England.
Jim loved playing and watching sports, was a committed runner, successfully completing the Boston Marathon and a 365-day run streak. He travelled the world for work and enjoyed special vacations with Sandra and Stewart.
Sustenance was important to Jim; he learned to hunt and butcher, started his own sourdough, grew potatoes and always appreciated a good wine. A perfect evening was a family dinner in the fresh air. Jim always had three books on the go with a pile, on a wide range of interests, waiting. He played both the saxophone and clarinet, getting involved in bands in recent years to play music with Stewart.
Jim cared deeply about the less fortunate and valued his time volunteering with Inn From the Cold and the Calgary Public Library.
Jim is remembered with love by his wife Sandra Cameron Evans, son Stewart Evans (Aime Nyhus), sister Elizabeth Evans (Gord Cetkovski), nephew Jimmy Cetkovski (Claire Vergerio), brother-in-law Ron (Susan) Cameron, niece Leah (Izaak) Atnikov, nephew Ian Cameron, mother-in-law Jean Cameron, aunt Gael Fontaine, his faithful dog Bo, as well as many cousins, and friends. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Rev. Dr. James and Annabelle Evans; and father-in-law Gordon Cameron.
A Private Funeral Service will be held on, Friday, March 26, 2021 at 11 :00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to join Jim’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
